AMRC’s warmest congratulations to Dame Sally Davies, currently Director of R&D at the Department of Health, on her appointment as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for England.   I wasn’t quite sure from the news release whether Dame Sally will continue to hold the R&D portfolio as she has been doing since becoming interim CMO.  Anyway, all I can say is that Sally’s support of the medical research charity sector has been very important to us over the last few years and she has always backed-up her words of support with action to match. 

I thought you might be interested in the Welsh Assembly announced of the all-Wales collaboration to strengthen clinical research – basically the setting-up of an Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC).  I would say more about it but they don’t mention charities which seems somewhat remiss.  But perhaps they can be encouraged to post a comment which clarifies how charities will be involved. I’d be happy to post it.
