Here’s one pilgrimage to patient experience worth taking….plus some Aussie common sense on science communication

I went to the Bob Sang Memorial Lecture by Sir Ian Kennedy this evening. Reflections on this another day.

But sitting with friends beforehand I learnt about this programme and website which creates evocative and telling videos of patient experiences. Entitled Pilgrim Projects, the videos focus on an incident or episode in a patient’s or carer’s or health professional’s life – rather than their whole story. They do a lot of work for the NHS and universities and I am looking forward to viewing them later. Shame on me for not knowing about it or sharing it before.

And here’s some good old Aussie common sense on why scientists need to communicate to a wider audience.

  1. It was good to meet you briefly at the Bob Sang Memorial Lecture and even better to learn of your enthusiasm for Patient Voices!

    I thought it might be helpful to make a small correction so that people might more easily find the website: Pilgrim Projects is our company and the name of the Programme to which you refer is Patient Voices. The idea was to play on the words ‘patients’ and ‘patience’ 🙂 and all the stories are freely available for use in health and social care education and quality improvement programmes. We would love to know what you – and your readers – think of the stories.
